What We Do

Program Goals

Our goal is to help clients achieve the following:

  • Gain a better understanding of their personal finances
  • Create a more secure economic future for individuals and their families
  • Dismantle the generational cycle of poverty, unemployment, and low educational attainment
  • Enhance their overall quality of life

Target Audience

Financial Empowerment for Minorities conducts programs and activities specifically designed for individuals who face personal and professional challenges that hinder success.  Our presentations have been tailor-made to serve the needs of:

  • Low-to-moderate income individuals and families;
  • Department of Public Welfare recipients;
  • Inner-city teenagers and young adults;
  • People in difficult or unusual life circumstances.

Statement of Need

  • 1 in 3 minorities say they don’t know where to start when it comes to financial planning
  • 45% of African Americans admit to avoiding conversations about finance
  • 2009 unemployment rates for minorities are significantly higher than the national average.  Hispanics increased from 10.9% to 12.3% and Blacks rose from 13.4% to 14.5% while national unemployment is only 9.4%
  • Lack of education contributes to low skill attainment which leads to low wage employment
